Android phone controlled Voice , Gesture and Touch screen operated Smart Wheelchair
ABSTRACT:
The
project aims at designing a wheel chair for physically disabled people using MEMS and Bluetooth. The
system contains control systems, manipulators, power supplies and software all
working together to perform a task.
This
physically challenging wheel chair is a machine that allows the physically
disabled person to change the direction of the vehicle according to his
requirement without any other person’s need. The project uses Embedded Systems to
design this application. The direction of the vehicle can be changed with
the hand gesture
sensor
provided with the system. The system accepts the input as the user’s gesture. At
the same time we can also control the wheel chair by using the Bluetooth app
from your android mobile.
As the user gives the input to the
controlling unit through gesture or from the android mobile Bluetooth
application, the Raspberry Pi 3 microprocessor reads the input and make the wheel chair move
in that particular direction specified by the user.
This
project is a device that collects data from the MEMS sensor or from the Android
app, codes the data into a format that can be understood by the controlling
section. This system also collects information from the master and implements
the commands specified by the master. Besides the above
sensors, we also incorporate the touch screen and the voice playback module to
the wheel chair. In case of any emergency, if the person touches the touch
screen in specific place, then the corresponding voice message will played by
the voice playback module via speaker. By this way, the disabled person can
easily convey his needs to the care taking person. We are also using the
ultrasonic sensor also to sense the obstacle in the direction of the wheel
chair and stops the wheel chair automatically.
